Every year, usually on a cold and snowy night, Montrealers brace the winter for the sake of art. The Canadian Centre for Architecture has developed a legendary reputation for their participation in Nuit Blanche, pushing the boundaries of performance within an architectural context. In 2011, I had the opportunity to curate and manage the evening, bringing together talented artists and cultural organizations from Montreal and abroad. The night featured collaborations and activities with local festival experts Pop Montreal, Italian-based art magazine Kaleidoscope, the art collective and magazine Palimpsest, live digital painting with Tyson Parks and Matt Goerzen, and a performance by the now super famous musician Grimes. Described by local media as no. 1 event not to be missed amongst hundreds of Nuit blanche activities, this programming and partnership strategy resulted one of highest ever attended events at the CCA.
