Jim Shaw at the New Museum

Jim Shaw at the New Museum

Trite observations from a trip to New York last week:

  1. Half buns are a thing. Mostly spotted on museum entrance staff, waitresses and Brooklyn girls. This is also how one of my classmates used to do her hair for exams in Grade 9. So maybe I’ll call this one “stress hair”.
  2. Quebeckers do the lumberjack look best. Sorry Brooklyn. Also, everyone should stop dressing like lumberjacks already.
  3. Beach volleyball is a winter sport played in Central Park.
  4. Sometimes strangers with lavish expense accounts pick up your cocktail tab! Nice.
  5. So many little dogs.
  6. The Highline gets crowded.
  7. Restaurants with holding pens.
  8. Socks optional.
  9. January is not a good time to shop in Manhattan.
  10. Many more French than ever before.
  11. Manhattan looks most glamorous from Brooklyn.
  12. Working for rent.
  13. Montrealers often feel compelled to compare themselves to New Yorkers.
  14. New Yorkers wouldn’t bother.
